A funny and sometimes poignant play about four aging opera singers. They were once well-known, even celebrated. They were good enough to be recorded singing together the Quartet in Verdi's Rigoletto, which has recently been re-released. Three of them, Cissy, Reggie and Wilf, are now living in a home for retired musicians. They have become close companions, trying to adjust to the challenges of growing old, and things are flowing along quite nicely -- until Jean, the fourth member of the quartet, who was once (briefly) married to Reggie, comes to live at the home. Then things go a little awry.
Jean: a diva, always has been, probably always will be, even though she has not sung for thirty years. She is trying to hold on to her "glory days."
Reggie: a quiet bookish sort of gentleman (most of the time).
Cissy: always tries to be helpful and see the best in everyone (no matter how difficult it may be at times). She sometimes says the most unusual things.
Wilf: feels frustrated at the loss of his youth in the most basic way. In spite of some inappropriate observations, he is kind and generous.
- All roles are major.
- Although the characters used to be opera singers, the only singing required of the actors is lip-sync.
- Regular rehearsals will begin in August, possibly Mondays, Wednesdays and Sundays (to be confirmed).
